Spay/Neuter Services
The mission of the Spay/Neuter Program is to make free or low cost pet sterilization available to residents of Sonoma County. This is achieved in the following ways:
-
Low Cost Spay/Neuters at Local Vet Clinics:
(We are sorry, but the City of Santa Rosa voucher program is suspended until July 1, 2009. Vouchers for unincorporated Sonoma County are also suspended until further notice. Thank you.) If you are a qualifying, low-income resident or feral cat caretaker of Sonoma County, you may receive a dog or cat spay/neuter voucher. With this voucher, the cost to have your dog spayed or neutered is only $20 and the cost for a cat spay or neuter is only $10 at participating vet clinics. In order to receive a voucher, you must provide proof of residency in Sonoma County and receive one of the following types of government assistance: AFDC; Food stamps; CCS; CalWorks; CHDP Medi-Cal; SSI; WIC; or Section 8 (there are other qualifying assistance, check the latest flyer) or have a household net income of $38,500 or less per year. To receive a voucher, please bring proof of government assistance, a valid photo I.D. and proof of residency to the Sonoma County Animal Shelter, (See Hours and location). Please leave your pet at home when you visit our agency. You will be issued a voucher and list of participating veterinarians where you can make an appointment.
- Free Pit Fix:
The City of Santa Rosa and unincorporated Sonoma County requires that all pit bulls 4-months of age or older are spayed or neutered. Animal Care & Control offers a limited number of free 'pit fixes' each week to residents of these areas. To schedule surgery for your pet, call 579-SPAY.
- Free Mom Cat Spays:
For cats who currently have a litter. When a pet owner relinquishes a litter of kittens to our shelter we offer free spay services for the mom of the litter. To receive the free spay for the mom cat you must turn in the litter for adoption when two months or older because two months is the youngest age for adoptions. Call 565-7100 for an appointment.
- MAC - Mobile Animal Center:
The Sonoma County Mobile Animal Center is utilized by local nonprofit agencies, such as Forgotten Felines and Pets Lifeline, who host free or low-cost spay/neuter events in various locations. For more information on events, visit Forgotten Felines or Pets Lifeline.
- Humane Society of Sonoma County Free Spay/Neuter Events:
