Spay/Neuter Services
Spay/Neuter Project: A collaborative pet sterilization effort between Sonoma County Animal Care and Control, the City of Santa Rosa, and the Humane Society & SPCA of Sonoma County.
The mission of the Spay/Neuter Project is to make free or low cost pet sterilization available to residents of Sonoma County. This is achieved in the following ways:
- Free Cat Sterilization Events: hosted monthly by the Humane Society and sponsored by Animal Care & Control, the City of Santa Rosa, and the Humane Society, these free drop-in events are open to all residents who may not otherwise be able to afford to have their cat sterilized.

- Low-Income Assistance: If you are a qualifying, low-income resident of Sonoma County, you may receive a dog or cat spay/neuter voucher. With this voucher, the cost to have your dog spayed or neutered is only $20 and the cost for a cat spay or neuter is only $10. In order to receive a voucher, you must provide proof of residency in Sonoma County, have a household net income of $38,500 or less per year or receive one of the following types of government assistance: AFDC; Food stamps; CCS; CalWorks; CHDP Medi-Cal; SSI; WIC; or Section 8. To receive a voucher, please bring proof of government assistance , a valid photo I.D. and proof of residency to the Sonoma County Animal Shelter, (See Hours and location). Please leave your pet at home when you visit our agency. You will be issued a voucher and list of participating veterinarians where you can make an appointment.

- MAC - Mobile Animal Center: The Mobile Animal Center is utilized by local nonprofit agencies, such as Forgotten Felines or Pets Lifeline, who host free or low-cost spay/neuter events in various locations. - Free Pit Fix: The City of Santa Rosa and unincorporated Sonoma County requires that all pit bulls 4-months of age or older are spayed or neutered. Animal Care & Control and the Humane Society offer a limited number of free 'pit fixes' each week. To schedule surgery for your pet, call 579-SPAY.
